Another room in your home where it is quite important for you to be organized is in your home office. With this in mind, here are five tips to help you organize this room of your home:

  1. Even if you choose to use your home office for both business and personal purposes, you should still try to separate them as much as possible. If you do not heed this advice, then you should be prepared for an accounting nightmare at the end of the year at tax time.
  2. It is important to make sure that you have a filing system in place that works for you. Of course, you will also need to have a place to put these files too. Make sure that you use as natural of groupings as possible for your filing system. However, by no means should you have a miscellaneous file because you will put too many things into this file simply because you do not want to think about it.
  3. Make sure that you have some type of a scheduling system in place. It is up to you whether you use your computer or some good old paper. The important thing is that you need all of your appointments to be kept in one place. This should include when specific bills need to be paid.
  4. Think about what items you will need to use each day. These items should be kept in an area that is easily accessible. You will want to make sure that this is done in a way that works for you. If you find that you constantly need to get up from your chair to get a certain item, then you should move that item into a spot where you can easily reach it from your chair.

Once you get everything in your home office organized, you will want to do your best to keep things this way. The best way in which to do this is by scheduling a time at which you work on organizing your home office once a week. During this scheduled time you will want to clean out and organize both your computer files, including your email, and your paper files. At this time you will also want to delete any computer files that you no longer use or need. If you do all of these things, your home office will always be neat and ready for you to use.
